Floof Grooming 101: Tools, Tricks & How to Win the Daily Fluff Battle

If you live with a Floof, congrats!! You are officially the personal stylist to feline royalty. With those luxurious coats, luscious tails, and drama award-winning stares, Floofs are as extra as cats get. But beauty comes with responsibility (and lots of fur). If your lint roller has given up on life, or your cat’s coat is starting to mat like a medieval tapestry ,don’t worry. I got you!

Here’s your no-nonsense, totally doable, actually helpful guide to keeping your Floof purrfectly groomed.

Why Floofs Cats Need More Grooming Than Other Cats

That gorgeous coat? It tangles like a Rapunzel's hair on a windy day. And those flat little faces? They can’t clean themselves as well as long-snouted cats, so you’re the designated beauty technician now. Regular grooming isn’t just for looks , it prevents:

  • Painful mats

  • Skin infections

  • Tear stains

  • Hairballs the size of Nebraska

How Often Should You Groom Your Floof?

  • Brush: Daily (Yes. Every. Day.)

  • Eye cleaning: Daily or every other day (But really try to make it a daily habit)

  • Bath: Every 4–6 weeks (or more if your diva is of the extra variety)

  • Nail trim: Every 2–3 weeks, Snip those tips! no need to go crazy just get those little dagger points off. Longer is better than too short!!

  • Ear cleaning: Once a month wipe away any visible wax (or as needed) It is not recommended to use any drops or liquid in the ears, even water can cause ear infections so be careful at bath time. If your floof has excessive ear gunk see your vet!

Must-Have Grooming Tools for Floofs

Here’s your starter kit for taming the fluff like a pro:

  1. Smooshy Floofs Stainless steel tangle tamer comb set
Perfect for daily brushing: detangles without tugging, reduce shedding and prevent hairballs.

  2. Extra small Fine-Tooth comb (FREE Crusty Comb with purchase of Eyebooger wipes while supplies last)
Great for delicate eye-area cleanup and removing crusty bits on the face and tiny matts on the forehead and behind the ears.

  3. Eye Booger Wipes
Gentle, effective, and doesn’t sting. Use after meals or naps.  Remove the tear stains, crusties, and boogers without irritation. Because every Floof deserves a clean snoot, not eye boogers.

Pro Tips to Make Grooming Actually Pleasant (Or at Least Tolerable)

  • Start young: If your Floof is still a kitten, congrats! Brainwash them early!!

  • Reward constantly: Treats, praise, and “good Floof!” go a long way.

  • Brush during cuddle time: TV time + gentle brushing = less stress for both of you.

  • Never pull a mat:  Pulling = betrayal.

  • Make it routine: Cats love predictable schedules. (Also… they’ll fight less.)

  • Make sure your Floof has a good stable base or can be held during grooming sessions. Our silicon splash mats work great for giving those grinch toes something to grip to during those grooming sessions to so those legs don't sploot out.

When to See a Groomer or Vet

  • Mats that won’t budge- Do not try to cut it out, cats have stretch skin that can be mistakenly cut

  • Skin redness or sores

  • Stinky coat (could be infection or underlying health issue)

  • If you’re sobbing into the brush daily ... time to call in a pro!
